Counselling and psychotherapy

Training and Qualifications
5 year full time medical training, doctor of medicine
4 year part-time training, Advanced Diploma in Transactional Analysis psychological studies.
Membership (by examination at level 7) of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College)
"Integrative" means that I may use skills and techniques from multiple different types of therapy. I most often use Transactional Analysis but may also draw on other research and theory. Each therapy is tailored to the individual client and the issues that they choose to work with. I am always learning and complete ongoing professional development to ensure that I keep up to date with new developments.
Since 2026 a number of counselling and psychotherapy regulatory organisations have adopted the 'SCoPEd' framework, designed to make it easier to understand and compare the level of training, practice and competency requirements for different practitioners. There are 3 columns, A, B and C, and I am in column C, defined as an advanced or specialist practitioner.
